How To Take Better Photos As An Elopement Photographer

As a Jackson Hole elopement photographer I get asked during my mentorships “how to take better photos” by aspiring photographers. And the answer may not be what you are expecting. It isn’t in regards to your camera, software or even editing. So here it is, my big secret to taking better photos: become an expert on your favorite locations!

Experience As An Elopement Photographer

I have spent countless hours researching the two places I now specialize in. Those being the Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Moab, Utah locations. I conducted my market research by staying in different lodging accommodations, eating at all the restaurants, exploring every trail, lake, canyon and river. By immersing myself in these places I can better serve my clients who need help pulling off the best wedding day!

By becoming an expert on these locations, I now have knowledge about the best spots for capturing breathtaking photos. As well as the most suitable accommodations for different preferences and budgets, the dining experiences that will leave couples satisfied. And even the local vendors who can add that extra touch of magic to their special day. All of these things add to the magic of their big day, which adds to the magic of their gallery!

Invest Your Time

In addition to experiencing all that your location has to offer. You can take better photos by investing your time. Spend time in you location in different seasons of the year, different times of day and at different spots. This will allow you to better understand the lighting throughout the entire year for your location, as well as other factors that contribute to the quality of your photos.
