Jackson Hole in the winter months is stunning with blankets of snow, warm cabin resorts and something magical is in the air in downtown. So it is no wonder I book elopements through the winter months! Although we don’t have as many winter weddings, it always surprises me when I have couples who brave the cold to elope in the Tetons. Here are some of my favorite winter wedding dresses, as well as some tips to keep you warm amiss the snow!
How To Stay Warm As A Winter Bride
If you are planning to have a Jackson Hole elopement, chances are you are going to want some stunning bridal portraits among the snowy woods or with a backdrop of the mountains. This means you are going to have to go outside… in the freezing cold! Don’t fret. I have been capturing elopement in the Tetons for over a decade and I have all the tips and tricks to keep you warm!
Layers
The best thing you can do is wear layers! Fleece lined leggings under your dress with thermal socks and boots make the biggest difference. I have had some brides bring pretty heels to change into for some photos, but even they keep their boots on for the majority of the time!
Hand Warmers
You can never have enough hand warmers. Keep them in pockets, tucked into pants, even in your dress as they cool down a little!
Take Breaks
My biggest tip for staying warm in the Grand Tetons in the winter has to be to take breaks! If you are getting too cold, take a break in the warmth of a truck with hot coco, coffee or any other warm beverage. When my couples regularly take breaks, they last a lot longer in the cold!
Cute Coats
I always recommend my winter brides bring a cute coat, whatever that may look like for you! This is a detail that is unique to winter weddings, so you should embrace it. Plus, we can always slip off your coat to display the glory of your full wedding dress.
Winter Wedding Dresses
Now that we have established how you are going to stay warm, let’s get to the fun part! Winter wedding dresses that I think you should have on your radar!! Every bride has a different style, but it is always helpful to get some inspiration and think outside of your box. Especially when it comes to winter elopements.
Pink Winter Wedding Dresses
This may not be for every bride, but I love it! For your winter elopement consider a pink wedding dress. This is a little non-traditional, but makes such a beautiful statement, especially for a winter elopement. You will stand out against the snowy backdrop in a pink dress or gown.
Kate opted for a thick lace mid dress for her Jackson Hole elopement. She then paired it with the cutest faux fur top, and when it got too cold, she layered it with a petticoat. She looked absolutely classy!

A Long Train
It may seem not practical for an adventure elopement, but I say, embrace the train! Winter wedding dresses don’t have to be plain. If your style is a little extra and grand, then stick to what you love! I promise we will find a way to carry your gown and capture all of its beauty!
Sierra chose an absolutely stunning mermaid gown with a long train featuring lace appliques. She paired it with a cropped white faux fur coat for a flattering and stylish look.

Sleek & Elegant
Just as bold as a detailed gown is one that seemingly has no details at all. I love a sleek satin wedding dress as it displays the craftsmanship of the designer in its lines, seams and texture. Its elegant, simple and makes a statement!
Alison chose an elegant gown with a square neckline and thick straps. This complimented her style perfectly and showed off her darling baby bump!

Winter Wedding Dresses With Sleeves
Sleeves seem like a reasonable solution to a cold winter elopement. However, my favorite kind of sleeves for a wedding dress are sheer ones! There is something about a sheer sleeve with little details on a gown that gives a whimsical feeling. Perfect for a snowy winter wonderland!
Anna wore a beautiful winter gown with sheer sleeves that featured small beading on the sleeves and back of the gown. I especially love the beading that is around the wrists, as it gives the illusion of bracelets.

Go Beyond The Dress
Bringing your personal style into your Jackson Hole elopement is key to creating a memorable day! A great way to do this with your wedding dress is to layer and style. Add a unique coat, florals that fit your vibe, and even a hairstyle that aligns with your vision.
Kailyn took a pretty neutral gown and elevated it to look more boho. She added a warm tones faux fur, dried florals, and even had her groom work with the warmer tones in his wedding attire. Winter wedding dresses can also be a blank canvas to work on!
