I may be a little bias as a Jackson Hole photographer, but I do think that the Tetons are the most magical location for engagement photos! From the radiant beams of light through the mountain tops, to the wooded fields. Every bit of this National Park is what dreams are made of! And to make sure your photos turn out the best they can I am sharing with you what to wear for engagement photos in Jackson Hole!
Engagement Photos In Jackson Hole
Generally speaking, I don’t do big hikes for engagement sessions. I try to keep it to locations that are easy to get to, very trail friendly, and of course scenic. This is because one, engagement sessions aren’t meant to last all day like an elopement. They are more affordable, so less time goes into them. And two, engagement photos in Jackson Hole deserve to be part of your experience in the Tetons, but not the entire experience! A day long excursion and multiple location is what an adventure elopement is for!
Formal Attire
If you want to go fancy for your engagement pictures, then let’s do it! I love how this couples (below) opted to wear a sports coat and jeans and a cute summer dress with boots! Although I encourage you to wear a more dressed up outfit if that is what you want for your photos. I will recommend that you bring a change of shoes just in case! If you are wanting to wear heels, I definitely have a few spots that will allow for it. However, in between you may want to put on something more comfortable for the trails.
Keep It Really Casual
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have seen jeans and a t-shirt work super well in engagement pictures! There is something beautiful about the simplicity of the look. It offers a younger vibe, while drawing more attention to the couple than the attire. Also, it is something you probably already have in your closet and is comfortable!
Sweater Weather
If you are more going for an upscale casual, then this is the look for you! Pair a sweater with some nice jeans and cute flats. And have your partner dress to compliment your color palette. I love the way these outfits photograph. They are the perfect blend of formal and casual. This style would be best for a fall engagement session, and can work in the colder spring months as well.
Mixing Patterns
For your engagement photos in Jackson Hole, consider mixing patterns between you and your partner. This will offer more interest in the outfits themselves, and has the potential to bring forward your personal styles a bit more! This couple (below) did a wonderful job of striking a balance between patterns with a large flannel pattern and a small floral on the skirt.
