As an Utah wedding photographer I get ot discover some pretty amazing places! Utah is filled with National Parks, endless views and hidden gems. This Salt Flats engagement session was stunning and I can’t wait to share more of it with you!

Salt Flats Engagement Session

This adorable couple met me out at the Bonneville Salt Flats this past April for a fun session on this blank canvas landscape. The Salt Flats is a very unique location, the densely pack salt floor is a remnant of the Pleistocene Lake Bonneville. And it is the largest salt flats located west of the Great Salt Lake!

Heidi and Lui had never been there before and always wanted some photos taken in this popular area. During the spring and early summer months the flats are covered with a thin layer of water. It’s a fun location to play but going barefoot in the water on the salt floor isn’t recommended. The hard salt surface is uneven with sharp ridges so it’s really uncomfortable without shoes. Sadly Heidi and Lui had forgotten their water safe shoes so we carefully walked barefoot for a few photos and did most of our playful and fun shots on the shore.

We ended up going back down the I-80 to the salt covered sand to get some more photos with the classic salt flats look. There we were able to have more freedom to move around and create some beautiful images that they were looking for.

I loved their outfit choices. Especially Heidi’s yellow sweater. The pop of color really warmed up the images and added to their fun and playful character. With neutral locations such as this where the landscape is pretty bare and light in color the options for what outfits will look good are truly unlimited. Even brides in white gowns against the white salt backdrop look stunning. But I love when couples pick clothing that fits their personalities too. Heidi and Lui have such bright personalities and adding that pop of yellow really added that feel to their photos.

Heidi and Lui were so funny and entertaining. We were laughing constantly and had the best time together. I’m so excited for these two to tie the knot, they really are so perfect for each other.
