I have been photographing in the Grand Tetons for weddings and elopements for over a decade! And my favorite spot to take my couples for bridal portraits has to be String Lake. From the stunning reflective water, the shallow beach, and the gorgeous views of the Grand Tetons. As a Jackson Hole photographer, I can’t get enough of this location! Here is everything you need to know before eloping to String Lake!

Location

This Grand Teton lake is just north of Jenny Lake and sits at the base of Rockchuck Peak of the Tetons. There are multiple trailheads here that lead down beautiful paths in the nearby woods. The water itself is shallow and easy to wade in, so if you are up for more adventurous elopement pictures, then this location is perfect! In addition, you can bring your own boat and paddle around the lake.

Can I Have My Ceremony At String Lake?

Unfortunately, String Lake developed areas and trails are on the prohibited locations list for wedding ceremonies and elopements. However, just because you can’t get married on the beach of this intimate lake, doesn’t mean we can’t visit and get some epic wedding photos! Most of my couples opt to visit a few locations while in the National Park with me, and we can definitely make this one of them!

As a Jackson Hole photographer I love String Lake for a few reasons. For one, it is a pretty quiet area with an intimate feel. Between the towering mountains and the thick forest, it feels private. The serene atmosphere, combined with the ever-changing light, makes it a perfect spot for capturing landscapes and candid moments together. It’s a place where nature’s beauty feels both majestic and personal!

In addition, the water offers breathtaking reflections of the Grand Tetons as it is calm and shallow. So when you stay on the beach, you get a picture perfect backdrop that just screams Grand Tetons! And if you are a true explorer and get in the water, it isn’t too deep or active, so you will have more control in your photos.

Honeymooning At String Lake

The majority of my couples who elope in Jackson Hole, want to honeymoon here as well! And even if you get photos at this lake location, you will definitely want to come back during your honeymoon! As a I mentioned before you have access to multiple hikes from String Lake and you can wade in the water to cool off. Pack a picnic and make an entire afternoon of it!
